Ram's largest ProMaster work truck gets a styling update for 2023 that includes a revised grille, new headlights and a revised front bumper. A range of new wheel designs are now available and the ProMaster can now be ordered with an extra high roof, making it ideal for carrying large loads or converting into a motorhome; Buyers can now also opt for a roll-up tailgate over the standard revolving doors. Also new is a new self-parking function that works in both parallel and perpendicular parking spaces.

The most economical choice of the Ram ProMaster range is the base model 1500 Transporter. For buyers looking for a reasonable work truck, the 1500 is a good choice because of its sensible standard equipment. The list includes a rear bumper, a sliding door on the passenger side and a split, swing-out rear door, which facilitate the loading and unloading of cargo. Inside is a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, air conditioning and a manually adjustable telescopic steering column. If you need extra train or payload capacity, the more expensive 2500 or 3500 models provide it.

All ProMaster vans are powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 276 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels. We didn't test the ProMaster with the nine-speed automatic, but the one with the old six-speed automaticmade it from zero to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds. That's a solid performance for this vehicle class, but other vans in this segment are faster. For example the Ford Transitmanaged to do the same sprint in just 6.8 seconds. The ProMaster can tow up to 6910 pounds and offers a maximum payload of 4680 pounds. When it comes to overall handling, the Ram ProMaster is significantly less refined than many of its competitors. The steering system is slack and numb, and competing vans offer a smoother ride quality.
Fuel economy and real MPG
Full-size vans like the ProMaster are exempt from fuel economy standards. As a result, the Ram van has not been tested by theEPO. We didn't test a ProMaster with the nine-speed automatic transmission, but during our time with a ProMaster with the old six-speed automatic transmission, we saw 14 mpg fuel economy. This corresponds to the mileage we observed from a Ford Transit.
Interior, comfort and cargo
The ProMaster offers the driver a wide view of the road. The cabin looks more spartan than the competition's vansfordInMercedes-Benz, but the overall design is quite attractive. While the interior materials mainly consist of resistant hard plastic, there is a lot of modern technology in the dashboard. For example, a configurable 7.0-inch display in the instrument panel and a wireless device charger are available. The Ram van dashboard also features a large and easily accessible storage compartment under the glove box. Those looking to transport more than a few people can opt for the Crew Van package, which includes a second row of seats for up to three people. However, the ProMaster has one major drawback: traffic noise. The Ram just isn't as effective as some rivals at keeping traffic noise out of the cabin.
